My name is Janice and I am a Safety Professional.
Some days I feel like I should be in a recovery group for safety people. Others days I am proud of it.
I have worked in a some sort of safety role for over 15 years. Most of my experience has been in heavy industrial construction but I have also worked for companies that worked for an institutional construction company, high-voltage electrical contractor, manufacturing, engineering and design firms, government, etc. For much of my experience, I worked for the constructor, the company that ran the job. Admittedly, it is not as fun working for the guy that was hired by the constructor.
I have seen many things in my years. I have never had to deal with a fatality. Don’t know if I can contribute that to luck or skill. In safety, it could be either.
I have written and passed the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) exam and completed the requirements for that of a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO). Since then I have let both certifications expire. I have also written the exam for the Gold Seal Program as a Safety Coordinator. Going to school for Human Resources Management is how I got into safety.
At the end of 2021, I was unexpectedly let go from my job and have since opened my own safety consulting firm, Spencer Safety Solutions. You can find me at http://www.spencersafetysolutions.ca
